Fried, DYED and Laid to the Side! (not really…)

6 Nov

Hey you, how have you been!?

24sevencurls has been 24sevenBUSY!!! But that’s ok, I am here now and I tried something new on my hair…COLOR!!!

I read a post from: BGLH: Two Ways to Do Safe, Wash-Out Hair Color ; and decided to try it for myself!

The hair chalk wasn’t the look I was going for, but the cream eye shadow was appealing. However, I had some random brand of left over eye shadow (years ago a girl at a kiosk in the mall made up my face and it was TERRIBLE, she ended up crying and gave me a free eye shadow *SCORE*) that with water added I thought might do the trick. So, I tried that first and it looked OK, but not really what I wanted. I also needed to re-twist my hair that night. Needless to say, by the morning this eye shadow was completely out of my hair already.

So, I got the Maybelline 24 hour tattoo cream eye shadow in Fierce & Tangy and another in Pomegranate Punk. Mixed them together in a bowl and applied to the front of my hair and here is how it turned out:

This was somewhat the look I was going for and it lasted quite a while. It does come off on your fingers when you touch it (keep a paper towel nearby so you don’t mess up your clothes) but I think it’s an easy, affordable and HEALTHY way to add temporary color to my hair. When I try it again I think I’ll use just the Pomegranate Punk and see how I like that.

Pick out some colors and change up your hair for a new look!

BTW, my twist outs have been fabulous lately! I went back to using just, shea butter, water and EVOO; set my hair in 10-12 twists and the twist out is SOOO defined for several days! Why did I ever stop doing this…?!?! Who knows; have fun playing in your hair today!

The never-ending twist-out!

26 Jul

Hello natural hair folks! I’ve been away…well, away from the blog for a while 😦 BUT it’s all for a greater reason! Carrying a baby is hard work man!

Anyhoo, here are some pics from the 2 strand twists  & flat twists in the front that I did on Mon., July 16th (my bday!!!) using shea butter & Fantasia IC gel, did the twist out on Sat., July 21st and wore it 3 different ways that day for my maternity photo-shoot & baby shower in VA! I had sooo much fun that day (definitely could never be a model though, I never know what to do w/my face!)

Same simple twist out, 3 different ways:

  1. full twist out- I used a wide pick at the roots to make it a little more full
  2. side pinned twist out- just used bobby pins to lay it down on one side
  3. high messy bun- used a ponytail holder to put it all up on top of my head and I pinned down the ends

Enjoy!

Hairstyle Fumble Recovery!

20 Sep

This past Friday I washed my hair with Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo. Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo I loved the smell all day and how it kept my hair feeling soft afterwards, clean but not stripped.  I just wore it in a puff to work that morning.  My intention was to do 2-strand twists as a protective style when I got home…however I was informed that we had to go to a HS football game…which ended up being a blowout…womp womp.  Nonetheless I had like an hour or so to do this…

So, I rushed and did the front half in 2 strands, then tried to pin up the back…FUMBLE!

I think I didn’t even take a pic of the back pinned up because it looked crazy, but who cares I’ve been out of High School for almost 10 years now…wasn’t trying to impress a soul.  SO once I got home I tried to recover my hairstyle fumble and came up with this for the meeting I had the next day:

Needless to say I’ve been happy with this because it’s easy.  I sprayed some tea tree oil on my scalp at  night, wear my satin scarf, wake up and do a type of flat twist gathering all the 2 strands down the left side and tuck the ends under each other on top of my head. I may use 1 or 2 bobby pins to secure the back larger flat twist end underneath on the same left side. But other than that, it’s a quick get up & go.  Due to the rain today I will wait another day to do the twist out & rock that but…this works for me!

What are your go-to quick styles or styles that you’ve created from hairstyle fumbles???
